SHRA History & Heritage
For such a small area, Strawberry Hill has a rich and interesting history. Apart from Pope’s Villa (Alexander Pope pictured) and Walpole’s Strawberry Hill House, Cross Deep was lined with grand villas and many interesting people made it their home. Walpole and Pope have left the area with its two outstanding heritage assets and both can be visited by the public. Strawberry Hill House has a regular programme of events throughout the year.
Pope’s Grotto
Pope’s Grotto, all that remains of his original house and garden, has been painstakingly restored. It can be visited on a limited number of days per year.
